Artist Statement - Lori York

I have always enjoyed "losing myself"  in my artwork.  The unaccounted-for hours  would literally just fly by while working on a drawing until the early hours of the morning.  But for most of my life I chose other paths of employment that limited the time I could spend on artwork.  Even though I was happiest when working on developing a picture, I was finding it increasingly difficult to squeeze in the time to devote to my art.  Finally with support of my family, friends, colleagues and most importantly my extremely supportive husband Dan, I was able to take the risk!

In May of 1998, I decided to leave my marketing position working for a non-profit agency, to pursue my love of art full time.  Through the years I have realized that art is personal and that each artist has their individual taste and style.  Each artist has different reasons for trying to capture on paper the beauty and emotions of the subjects that surround them.  My goal as an artist is to use my artistic talent as a tool to help make a difference and to do my part in making the world a better place to live.

The line of Greyhound Greetings was inspired by the adoption of our greyhound, Atticus, who is named after the lawyer in "To Kill A Mockingbird" by Harper Lee.   This regal 80lb ex-racer quickly stole our hearts, and our couch whenever given the opportunity!  Of course our cat, Gremlin, wasn't overly thrilled at our new addition at first.  Especially when Gremlin's swinging tail started to resemble the lure that Atticus was trained to chase around the tracks!

When I realized what wonderful pets the greyhound makes, I knew that this was an opportunity for me to help make a difference.   With thousands of   greyhounds being killed annually......  I designed this line of original pen-and-ink drawings  to help spread the message about greyhound rescue efforts.   As a socially responsible company, Lodestar Productions Group will donate a portion of the proceeds from the purchase of the greyhound greeting cards to greyhound adoption and rescue organizations.

Thank you for your support!
